The ORATORIENCHOR KÖLN was formed in 1957 under its first leader Dr. Gerhard Bork and was named "Chorgemeinschaft im Evangelischen Stadtkirchenverband Köln". Since 1986 the choir is led by Andreas Meisner. In 1989 the choir was renamed to "ORATORIENCHOR KÖLN im Evangelischen Stadtkirchenverband". At the moment the choir has 100 members.
The choir's musical interest aims at choir works of the Baroque and the Classic and increasingly at romantic and late romantic compositions. Works by contemporary composers like Duruflé and Flor Peeters, Avo Pärt and Messiaen were on the programme as well. |
The concerts of ORATORIENCHOR KÖLN take place regularly in Kölner Philharmonie (Cologne Concert Hall), Altenberg Cathedral and in several churches of Cologne (Trinitatiskirche, St. Aposteln and Cologne Cathedral).
Invitations led ORATORIENCHOR KÖLN to Aachen, Mechelen (Flandern Festival with works by Flor Peeters) and other places. In November 1999 the choir gave a concert in La Madeleine church in Paris.
The choir is member of "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kölner Chöre" (workgroup of Cologne choirs).
